While the world was settling into the Easter weekend, U2 delivered a profound musical gift. Dropping without prior warning on Good Friday, the new six-track EP „Easter Lily“ marks a deeply personal shift for the band, moving away from the political fire of their February release „Days of Ash“ toward something more intimate and spiritual.

Between Algorithms and Human Connection

In the accompanying digital issue of Propaganda, Bono poses questions that resonate deeply in our digital age: Can our relationships survive the „mangling of meaning“ by algorithms? Is there still room for ceremony and ritual in a cynical world?

The title „Easter Lily“ is a direct nod to Patti Smith’s 1978 album Easter, a record that Bono credits with giving him hope as a teenager. This sense of hope and rebirth permeates the entire EP.

Track Highlights & Sonic Depth

  • „Song for Hal“: A standout moment where The Edge takes over lead vocals. It’s a touching lament for the late producer Hal Willner, blending grief with a beautiful, recurring message: „You’re not alone.“
  • „Scars“: Originating from a session with Martin Garrix, this track is an anthem of encouragement and acceptance. It’s about the marks life leaves on us—something we can all relate to right now.
  • „COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?)“: The EP closes with a hauntingly beautiful soundscape by Brian Eno. It’s a lullaby for a world in turmoil, inviting the listener to pause and breathe.

Why It Matters

For us as independent artists and music lovers, „Easter Lily“ is a reminder that music doesn’t always have to shout to be heard. Sometimes, the most powerful statements are made in the whispers between the lines. It’s a „hug“ in musical form—intimate, raw, and incredibly timely.
